Equatorial Guinea is a small country on the Central West African coast. It's capital city, Malabo, is located on the island of Bioko which lies to the NW of mainland Equatorial Guinea and just south of the Cameroon/Nigeria border.

The population of the whole country is only
approximately 500,000 and it's total area, including offshore islands is only 28,000 sq km.The official languages are Spanish & French but English is common also, along with national dialects of pidgin English, Fang, Bubi and Ibo. It's primary religion is Roman Catholic. It is an ex Spanish colony, having gained independence in 1964. The climate
alternates between the rainy season, generally August  - January and quite hot during therest of the year with a temperature of around +30C. The onset of the oil industry offshore has changed the island of Biokoand in particular Malabo beyond recognition in the last few 5 years.

It's a relatively new oil producing country with only two fixed installations offshore Bioko, the Jade Platform and the FPSO Zafiro Producer. Occasionally there are drilling rigs in the field also doing development work and there are plans for a further

There is also activity offshore the mainland with other oil companies exploring and developing rich oil and gas fields. Triton are one oil company that are working offshore mainland Equatorial Guinea though their operations are also based in the administrative centre of the country, Malabo.
